Step 1: Remove Loose Debris

Before applying any cleaner, vacuum the rubber floor with a soft brush head to remove dust, dirt, and loose particles. A vacuum works better than a broom because it can pull debris out of the small pores in the rubber.

  • Adjust the vacuum brush height so it doesn’t scratch or mark the surface.
  • A light to medium setting is usually enough to lift debris without causing damage.

Step 2: Wash the Floor

Rubber flooring is best cleaned with a mop, but not all mop types work well:

  • Avoid cotton string mops or low-quality sponge mops, as they can shed fibers.
  • Use a microfiber mop head for the best results.

Mix a pH-neutral cleaner (such as Zep Concentrated Neutral pH Floor Cleaner) with warm water, following the product’s dilution instructions. Mop the floor with a damp—not soaking wet—mop.

⚠️ If using a foamy cleaner (like dish soap), rinse the floor afterward with clean water. Skipping this step can leave behind a film that makes the floor look dull and attracts more dirt.

Step 3: Dry the Floor

Let the floor air dry completely. To speed up the process:

  • Open windows for better airflow.
  • Use a box fan to circulate air.
  • Wipe up excess water with a dry microfiber cloth or mop.

1/4" (6mm) Rubber Gym Tiles — 24” x 24” | Best-Value Modular Flooring for Full-Room Coverage

When you want to tile an entire room — not just an equipment zone — the 1/4" (6mm) rubber gym tile in 24” x 24” is the most economical way to do it. At 4 square feet per tile, you cover more ground per tile placed, cut your install time, and bring the price down to $1.48/sqft in Black — the lowest per-sqft price in our tile lineup. With 6 color options (including Eggshell/Cocoa and Terra Cotta that the smaller 18” tile doesn’t carry), this is the tile to reach for when you’re designing a full room with a specific aesthetic in mind.

Made in the USA from recycled rubber, backed by a 5-year warranty.

Why 24” x 24” Beats 18” x 18” for Full-Room Installs

  • Fewer tiles to place — a 10’ x 10’ room takes 25 tiles at 24” versus 43 tiles at 18”; that’s a real difference in install time
  • Better per-sqft economics — Black tiles cost $1.48/sqft compared to $1.55/sqft for the 18” tile; for a 200 sqft room, that’s a meaningful savings
  • More color choices — 6 colors including Eggshell/Cocoa and Terra Cotta, which aren’t available in the 18” format; if you’re designing for aesthetics, this is your palette
  • Cleaner look at scale — larger tiles mean fewer seams, giving a more polished finished appearance in open room installs
  • Better for rectangular rooms — at 24” even, the math is clean: a 12’ room needs 6 tiles across, a 10’ room needs 5 tiles with a minimal edge cut

Where 1/4" (6mm) 24” Tiles Are the Right Call

  • Full-room cardio and light fitness spaces where the entire floor needs protection — studios, apartment gyms, rec rooms with treadmills, bikes, and rowers
  • Yoga and stretching studios that need defined rubber flooring with an attractive finish — the Terra Cotta and Eggshell/Cocoa options give a premium studio look
  • Multipurpose basement gyms where some zones have light equipment and others are open training floor
  • Pet and kennel facilities that need easy-clean, slip-resistant flooring over large areas
  • School and community fitness spaces with light-use equipment and flexibility requirements
  • Under cardio machines over hardwood or tile where you want protection without raising floor height by more than 1/4”
  • Spaces where design matters — the expanded color palette makes this the go-to for rooms where the floor is part of the aesthetic, not just functional infrastructure

How the Interlocking System Works

Each tile features puzzle-style interlocking edges on all four sides. No adhesive, no tools, no underlayment required — press tiles together and the interlocking edges hold them in place under normal use. Benefits of the loose-lay system:

  • Expand the floor later by adding tiles to any open edge
  • Lift out individual tiles for cleaning under equipment without disturbing the rest of the floor
  • Replace a single damaged tile without buying a whole new section
  • Reconfigure the layout if your equipment changes — the floor comes with you

Frequently Asked Questions

How many 24” x 24” tiles do I need?

Each tile covers exactly 4 square feet. Divide your room’s total area by 4 and add 5–10% for edge cuts. A 10’ x 12’ room needs approximately 32 tiles (120 sqft ÷ 4 = 30, plus 5% overage = 32). For rooms with complex shapes or many obstacles, add closer to 10%.

Why does the 24” tile cost less per square foot than the 18”?

Larger tiles are more material-efficient to manufacture and distribute. The 24” tile at $1.48/sqft (Black) versus $1.55/sqft for the 18” tile reflects this. For full-room installs where total coverage is the goal, the 24” format saves you money on both the tiles and the time it takes to install them.

Is 1/4" thick enough for a home gym?

For cardio equipment, yoga, stretching, and light weight training (machines, benches, cable work), yes — the 1/4" tile handles these uses well. If your home gym includes free weights, squat racks, or any barbell work where the bar contacts the floor, step up to the 5/16" or 1/2" tile for that zone.

Can I use these tiles over carpet?

Yes — but keep in mind that tiles over carpet may have more flex underfoot, particularly in areas with thick carpet. The interlocking system works regardless of the surface below. For hard surfaces (concrete, tile, hardwood), the floor will feel firmer and more stable, which most gym users prefer.

Do these come with edge trim pieces?

The tiles themselves have puzzle-style interlocking edges; border and corner trim pieces for a finished edge are sold separately. For a clean perimeter finish in an open room install, plan for border pieces around the perimeter. Contact us for trim piece availability for this tile size.
