Step 1: Remove Loose Debris

Before applying any cleaner, vacuum the rubber floor with a soft brush head to remove dust, dirt, and loose particles. A vacuum works better than a broom because it can pull debris out of the small pores in the rubber.

  • Adjust the vacuum brush height so it doesn’t scratch or mark the surface.
  • A light to medium setting is usually enough to lift debris without causing damage.

Step 2: Wash the Floor

Rubber flooring is best cleaned with a mop, but not all mop types work well:

  • Avoid cotton string mops or low-quality sponge mops, as they can shed fibers.
  • Use a microfiber mop head for the best results.

Mix a pH-neutral cleaner (such as Zep Concentrated Neutral pH Floor Cleaner) with warm water, following the product’s dilution instructions. Mop the floor with a damp—not soaking wet—mop.

⚠️ If using a foamy cleaner (like dish soap), rinse the floor afterward with clean water. Skipping this step can leave behind a film that makes the floor look dull and attracts more dirt.

Step 3: Dry the Floor

Let the floor air dry completely. To speed up the process:

  • Open windows for better airflow.
  • Use a box fan to circulate air.
  • Wipe up excess water with a dry microfiber cloth or mop.

1/2" (12mm) Rubber Gym Tiles — 24” x 24” | Maximum Protection in a Modular Format for Powerlifting, CrossFit & Olympic Lifting

When you need our thickest rubber and the flexibility of a modular interlocking floor, this is it. Our 1/2" (12mm) rubber gym tiles in 24” x 24” bring maximum impact protection to any zone of your gym — powerlifting stations, Olympic lifting platforms, CrossFit drops, deadlift areas, or any space where you need the most rubber between your weights and your floor — without committing to a fixed-size mat that can’t flex to your layout.

At 12mm thick and 4 sqft per tile, these are the heaviest-duty interlocking tiles we carry. Made in the USA from recycled rubber, backed by a 5-year warranty, available in 6 colors.

Why Maximum-Thickness Tiles Beat Mats for Heavy Training Zones

  • Tile to any footprint — a fixed 4’ x 6’ mat is a fixed 4’ x 6’ mat; tiles let you cover exactly the footprint you need, whether that’s a square rack zone, an asymmetric Olympic platform space, or a full CrossFit bay
  • Expand and reconfigure — add tiles as your space grows; rearrange when your equipment layout changes; tiles move, mats don’t
  • Individual tile replacement — if a high-traffic tile shows wear, swap one 24” tile, not a whole mat; this is a real cost advantage in commercial facilities with heavy daily use
  • Seamless coverage for large zones — tile a full CrossFit bay or Olympic lifting area without the seams and handling challenges of multiple large fixed mats
  • 6 color options — match your facility’s color scheme or zone your floor by training area with Black, Gray, Blue, Blue/Gray, Eggshell/Cocoa, or Terra Cotta

Where 1/2" (12mm) Tiles Are the Right Call

  • Powerlifting stations — squat rack zones, bench setups, and deadlift areas where the bar regularly contacts the floor under heavy load; 12mm absorbs the impact and protects the concrete
  • Olympic weightlifting platforms — use these tiles to build a custom-footprint Olympic platform with 12mm rubber across the drop zones; pair with a center plywood section for the standing area
  • CrossFit facilities and functional fitness boxes — the bar drops, the kettlebells get set down hard, the box jumps land heavy; 12mm tiles handle the full CrossFit load across the whole floor
  • Deadlift-focused zones — the tile format lets you build a dedicated deadlift area of any length or width without being constrained to 4’ x 6’ or 4’ x 8’ increments
  • Commercial weight rooms and strength areas in facilities that need durable, serviceable flooring with a replacement-tile model instead of full-floor replacement
  • Competition prep spaces where the floor needs to match the protection level of competition platforms
  • Horse stall and equine facility flooring — 12mm provides superior joint protection for horses; the modular tile format makes stall corners and irregular-shaped stalls easy to cover

How the Interlocking System Works

Each tile features puzzle-style interlocking edges on all four sides. No adhesive, underlayment, or tools required for installation. Tiles press together and hold in place under heavy training loads. The system is fully reversible — tiles lift out individually for cleaning or replacement without disturbing surrounding tiles.

The 1/2" tile’s weight (approximately 11.5 lbs per tile in Black) means tiles self-anchor well under heavy equipment and loaded movement. Under extreme lateral force — sprinting, sled pushes — perimeter tiles may benefit from border edge trim or being tucked against a wall.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I build an Olympic lifting platform with these tiles?

Yes — tile the outer drop zones with 1/2" tiles to any dimension you need, then place a plywood or hardwood center section where you stand. The classic DIY platform uses a 4’ wide rubber zone on each side of a 4’ wood center, for a total platform width of 8’ or more. Tiles let you build the rubber zones to any length and adjust later if needed — more flexibility than fixed mats.

How many tiles for a CrossFit bay?

A standard CrossFit bay is roughly 10’ x 10’ per athlete station (100 sqft). At 4 sqft/tile, that’s 25 tiles per bay plus 5% overage = 27 tiles. A 5-bay facility covering 500 sqft needs approximately 130 tiles. At $12.96/tile, the per-sqft cost is $3.24 (Black) — a commercial-grade investment with the advantage of per-tile replaceability as the floor sees daily use.

Is 1/2" tiles better or worse than a 1/2" fixed mat for a deadlift area?

Depends on your setup. Fixed mats (4’ x 6’ or 4’ x 8’) have zero seams in the coverage area, which some lifters prefer for the clean surface feel. Tiles offer layout flexibility, easy replacement, and the ability to configure any footprint. Both are the same rubber, same thickness, same USA manufacturing. Choose mats for standard footprints with no seam preference; choose tiles when flexibility or expandability matters more.

How much does a 1/2" 24x24 tile weigh?

Approximately 11.5 lbs per tile in Black (2.88 lbs/sqft × 4 sqft). For context, a 10’ x 10’ tiled floor is about 25 tiles × 11.5 lbs = 288 lbs of rubber total. Plan your installation accordingly — these are substantial tiles that stay in place well under heavy training loads.

Does the 5-year warranty cover the 1/2" tiles?

Yes — our 5-year warranty covers all rubber flooring including the 1/2" (12mm) tiles, covering manufacturing defects in material and workmanship.
