Step 1: Remove Loose Debris
Before applying any cleaner, vacuum the rubber floor with a soft brush head to remove dust, dirt, and loose particles. A vacuum works better than a broom because it can pull debris out of the small pores in the rubber.
- Adjust the vacuum brush height so it doesn’t scratch or mark the surface.
- A light to medium setting is usually enough to lift debris without causing damage.
Step 2: Wash the Floor
Rubber flooring is best cleaned with a mop, but not all mop types work well:
- Avoid cotton string mops or low-quality sponge mops, as they can shed fibers.
- Use a microfiber mop head for the best results.
Mix a pH-neutral cleaner (such as Zep Concentrated Neutral pH Floor Cleaner) with warm water, following the product’s dilution instructions. Mop the floor with a damp—not soaking wet—mop.
⚠️ If using a foamy cleaner (like dish soap), rinse the floor afterward with clean water. Skipping this step can leave behind a film that makes the floor look dull and attracts more dirt.
Step 3: Dry the Floor
Let the floor air dry completely. To speed up the process:
- Open windows for better airflow.
- Use a box fan to circulate air.
- Wipe up excess water with a dry microfiber cloth or mop.

1/2" (12mm) Rubber Gym Mats — 4’ x 8’ | Full Lifting Platform Protection for Powerlifting & Olympic Training
The most protection we offer in the largest standard mat size. Our 1/2" (12mm) rubber gym mats in 4’ x 8’ give you 32 square feet of maximum-thickness rubber protection — designed for full power rack stations with barbell drop zones, Olympic lifting platforms, serious deadlift areas, and commercial weight rooms where the floor takes real punishment every day.
At 12mm thick and 32 square feet per mat, these are the most substantial mats we sell. Made in the USA from recycled rubber, backed by a 5-year warranty, and available in 7 colors. Free shipping.
Why the 4’ x 8’ Format at 1/2" Thickness?
- Full rack + barbell zone coverage in one mat — the 8-foot length covers your power rack base and the full barbell pull zone in front — no seam in the middle of your deadlift area
- Olympic lifting platform outer panels — the classic platform setup uses two 4’ x 8’ rubber mats as the outer sections flanking a center wood platform; this mat is sized exactly for that role
- Two barbell stations side by side in commercial facilities — one mat covers both zones seamlessly
- Maximum subfloor protection over concrete — nothing in our lineup absorbs more impact and distributes load more effectively
- Horse stall standard sizing — 4’ x 8’ is the most common size used in equine facilities; three mats cover a standard 12’ x 8’ stall run
What 12mm Gives You That Nothing Else Does
- Maximum impact absorption in the mat lineup — 12mm of recycled rubber is designed to absorb, not just deflect
- Best protection for repeated overhead and ground-level drops in weightlifting and CrossFit applications
- Protects concrete slabs from cracking under the repeated impact of dropped barbells and heavy loaded movement
- The most anti-fatigue performance for athletes standing through long training sessions
- 5-year industry-leading warranty
- Made in the USA from recycled tires
- Slip-resistant across the full surface
- 7 colors: Black, Gray, Blue, Blue/Gray, Confetti, Eggshell/Cocoa, and Terra Cotta

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I build an Olympic lifting platform with these mats?
The classic DIY platform uses two 4’ x 8’ rubber mats as the outer sections (where the bar lands) with a 4’ x 4’ or 4’ x 8’ wood surface (plywood or stall mats) in the center (where you stand). Place the two rubber mats flanking the center board, secured to a plywood base if desired. The 1/2" thickness absorbs the bar drop on the outer panels while the wood center gives your feet a firm, flat standing surface.
How much does a 4’ x 8’ 1/2" mat weigh?
About 92 lbs for the Black version (2.88 lbs/sqft × 32 sqft). This is a two-person mat — have a training partner or helper available when placing or moving it.
Is 1/2" better than 3/8" for a power rack in a garage gym?
Depends on your training. If you deadlift with the bar touching down between reps, regularly miss lifts, or drop barbells from any height, the 1/2" is worth the extra cost — the additional 3mm of rubber makes a meaningful difference in impact protection over time. If you squat and press but never have the bar contact the floor with real force, our 3/8" mat handles that well and saves about $65 per mat.
Can I use these in a commercial gym?
Absolutely — the 1/2" mat is our most commercial-appropriate thickness for barbell zones, and the 4’ x 8’ format is standard in commercial settings for covering full rack stations. The 5-year warranty and made-in-USA quality make it a reliable long-term investment for facilities with daily heavy use.
How many mats for a standard horse stall?
A 12’ x 12’ stall takes 6 mats (6 × 32 sqft). For an 8’ x 12’ run, 3 mats covers it exactly. Our 1/2" mats are extremely popular for horse stalls because the extra thickness provides superior joint protection for horses standing for extended periods.
