Step 1: Remove Loose Debris
Before applying any cleaner, vacuum the rubber floor with a soft brush head to remove dust, dirt, and loose particles. A vacuum works better than a broom because it can pull debris out of the small pores in the rubber.
- Adjust the vacuum brush height so it doesn’t scratch or mark the surface.
- A light to medium setting is usually enough to lift debris without causing damage.
Step 2: Wash the Floor
Rubber flooring is best cleaned with a mop, but not all mop types work well:
- Avoid cotton string mops or low-quality sponge mops, as they can shed fibers.
- Use a microfiber mop head for the best results.
Mix a pH-neutral cleaner (such as Zep Concentrated Neutral pH Floor Cleaner) with warm water, following the product’s dilution instructions. Mop the floor with a damp—not soaking wet—mop.
⚠️ If using a foamy cleaner (like dish soap), rinse the floor afterward with clean water. Skipping this step can leave behind a film that makes the floor look dull and attracts more dirt.
Step 3: Dry the Floor
Let the floor air dry completely. To speed up the process:
- Open windows for better airflow.
- Use a box fan to circulate air.
- Wipe up excess water with a dry microfiber cloth or mop.

1/4" (6mm) Rubber Gym Mats — 4’ x 8’ | Extra Coverage for Multi-Machine & Large-Footprint Setups
When one cardio machine isn’t the whole picture, the 4’ x 8’ format gives you 32 square feet of lightweight floor protection — enough to cover two side-by-side pieces of cardio equipment, a large commercial treadmill, or a full yoga and stretching zone. Same great 1/4" (6mm) recycled rubber, same USA manufacturing, same free shipping — just a bigger footprint where you need it most.
At 1.44 lbs/sqft, the 4’ x 8’ mat weighs about 46 lbs — still manageable to place and adjust, and a fraction of the weight of thicker alternatives. Available in 7 colors to match your space.
When the 4’ x 8’ Size Makes Sense
- Two side-by-side cardio machines — cover a treadmill and a bike, or two ellipticals, with a single seamless mat instead of two separate ones
- Large commercial treadmills with wider-than-standard bases that extend past a 4’ x 6’ footprint
- Rowing machines — the extra length covers the full glide path of longer rower models
- Yoga and stretching zones — the 8-foot length gives you full room to extend in both directions
- Cardio equipment plus adjacent floor space — protects the machine footprint and the step-on/step-off area beside it
- Pet care rooms and kennel areas where you need continuous coverage without seams
Why 1/4" (6mm) Is the Right Thickness for This Application
- Purpose-built for cardio and light-use equipment — treadmills, bikes, ellipticals, and rowers don’t need the thickness required for barbell work
- Lightweight and easy to handle — at 46 lbs total, this mat is one person manageable
- Floor protection without raising equipment height — 6mm adds minimal lift, important for equipment with step-on points or safety rails
- Made in the USA from recycled tires
- Slip-resistant surface keeps equipment from shifting during use
- Best value per square foot of any rubber mat we carry
- 7 colors: Black, Gray, Blue, Blue/Gray, Confetti, Eggshell/Cocoa, and Terra Cotta

Frequently Asked Questions
Is a 4’ x 8’ mat the right size for two treadmills side by side?
For two narrower residential treadmills sharing a 4-foot total width, yes — the 4’ x 8’ covers the combined footprint well. For commercial units that are wider individually, you may want two 4’ x 6’ mats placed side by side instead. The key measure is the combined width of your equipment, which should be at or under 4 feet.
How heavy is the 4’ x 8’ mat?
About 46 lbs for the Black version (1.44 lbs/sqft × 32 sqft). It’s one-person manageable for most people, though having a second person helps when placing it under heavy equipment.
Should I get 4’ x 6’ or 4’ x 8’ for my home gym?
Measure the footprint of the equipment you want to protect, then add 6 inches on each end as a buffer. If your equipment footprint is under 4’ x 5.5’, the 4’ x 6’ works perfectly. If you want coverage for two machines, a larger cardio unit, or a full stretch zone, the 4’ x 8’ is worth the extra cost — the price difference is modest and the extra 8 square feet is real insurance.
Can I put 1/4" rubber mats in my garage gym?
For cardio equipment only, yes. However, if your garage gym also has free weights, barbells, or a squat rack, we’d recommend our 3/8" mats for the weight training area. Many garage gym builders use 1/4" mats under their cardio equipment and thicker mats in the barbell zone.
Are these mats made in the USA?
Yes — all our rubber gym mats are made in the USA from recycled tires.
