Step 1: Remove Loose Debris
Before applying any cleaner, vacuum the rubber floor with a soft brush head to remove dust, dirt, and loose particles. A vacuum works better than a broom because it can pull debris out of the small pores in the rubber.
- Adjust the vacuum brush height so it doesn’t scratch or mark the surface.
- A light to medium setting is usually enough to lift debris without causing damage.
Step 2: Wash the Floor
Rubber flooring is best cleaned with a mop, but not all mop types work well:
- Avoid cotton string mops or low-quality sponge mops, as they can shed fibers.
- Use a microfiber mop head for the best results.
Mix a pH-neutral cleaner (such as Zep Concentrated Neutral pH Floor Cleaner) with warm water, following the product’s dilution instructions. Mop the floor with a damp—not soaking wet—mop.
⚠️ If using a foamy cleaner (like dish soap), rinse the floor afterward with clean water. Skipping this step can leave behind a film that makes the floor look dull and attracts more dirt.
Step 3: Dry the Floor
Let the floor air dry completely. To speed up the process:
- Open windows for better airflow.
- Use a box fan to circulate air.
- Wipe up excess water with a dry microfiber cloth or mop.

Not Sure If 1/2" Is the Right Thickness for You?
Here’s how our rubber roll thicknesses stack up so you can make the right call for your space:
| Thickness | Best For | Starting Price |
|---|---|---|
| 1/4" (6mm) | Light cardio, yoga, stretching areas | $ |
| 5/16" (8mm) | General fitness, cardio equipment, multipurpose | $$ |
| 3/8" (9mm) | Home gyms, weight rooms, commercial facilities | $$$ |
| 1/2" (12mm) ← You Are Here | Powerlifting, Olympic lifting, dropped weights | $$$$ |
Quick rule of thumb: If you’re regularly dropping loaded barbells from the hip or above, 1/2" is the right call. For general strength training and cardio, our 3/8" rubber rolls are our most popular pick.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is 1/2" rubber flooring thick enough for dropping weights?
Yes — 1/2" (12mm) is our thickest rubber roll and is specifically designed to absorb the impact of dropped barbells and bumper plates. It’s the preferred choice for powerlifting gyms, Olympic lifting platforms, and any facility where heavy weights are regularly dropped from height.
What’s the difference between 3/8" and 1/2" rubber rolls?
The main difference is thickness and shock absorption. Our 3/8" (9mm) rolls are our most popular all-around gym flooring option and handle the demands of most home and commercial gyms. The 1/2" (12mm) rolls provide significantly more cushion and subfloor protection — ideal when dropped weights are a regular part of training.
Does 1/2" rubber flooring work for Olympic lifting?
Absolutely. Our 1/2" rubber rolls are widely used in Olympic training facilities and competitive weightlifting gyms. They provide the shock absorption and surface stability that Olympic lifters need when catching and dropping heavy loads.
What does the 5-year warranty cover?
Our 5-year warranty covers manufacturing defects in material and workmanship. It’s an industry-leading guarantee that reflects our confidence in the durability of these rolls under real-world gym conditions.
Are these rubber rolls made in the USA?
Yes. Our 1/2" rubber rolls are proudly made in the USA from recycled tires — a durable, sustainable choice that performs as hard as you train.
How do I install 1/2" rubber rolls?
Roll out your rubber flooring and trim to fit using a straight edge and sharp utility knife. For permanent installation, secure with our Polyurethane Adhesive or use Double Sided Tape at seams and edges. No special tools or skills required.
How do I clean 1/2" rubber gym flooring?
Rubber flooring is built to be low-maintenance. Sweep or vacuum to remove debris, then mop with a mild, rubber-safe cleaner and water. Avoid petroleum-based cleaners or harsh solvents, which can break down the rubber compounds over time.
