Step 1: Remove Loose Debris
Before applying any cleaner, vacuum the rubber floor with a soft brush head to remove dust, dirt, and loose particles. A vacuum works better than a broom because it can pull debris out of the small pores in the rubber.
- Adjust the vacuum brush height so it doesn’t scratch or mark the surface.
- A light to medium setting is usually enough to lift debris without causing damage.
Step 2: Wash the Floor
Rubber flooring is best cleaned with a mop, but not all mop types work well:
- Avoid cotton string mops or low-quality sponge mops, as they can shed fibers.
- Use a microfiber mop head for the best results.
Mix a pH-neutral cleaner (such as Zep Concentrated Neutral pH Floor Cleaner) with warm water, following the product’s dilution instructions. Mop the floor with a damp—not soaking wet—mop.
⚠️ If using a foamy cleaner (like dish soap), rinse the floor afterward with clean water. Skipping this step can leave behind a film that makes the floor look dull and attracts more dirt.
Step 3: Dry the Floor
Let the floor air dry completely. To speed up the process:
- Open windows for better airflow.
- Use a box fan to circulate air.
- Wipe up excess water with a dry microfiber cloth or mop.

3/8" (9mm) Rubber Gym Mats — 4’ x 6’ | Our Best-Selling Thickness for Serious Home Gym Builds
Our 3/8" (9mm) rubber gym rolls are the #1 selling thickness we carry — and the same logic applies to the mat format. The 3/8" mat is the go-to choice for home gym builders, commercial facilities, and serious trainers who want real impact protection under free weights, barbells, squat racks, and heavy-duty gym equipment.
At 4 feet by 6 feet, this mat covers the footprint of a squat rack base, a barbell station, or a dedicated free-weight zone with room to move. Made in the USA from recycled rubber, backed by a 5-year warranty, and available in 7 colors. Free shipping included.
Why 3/8" (9mm) Is the Gold Standard for Gym Mat Thickness
- Our #1 best-selling mat thickness — chosen by home gym owners, commercial gym operators, and fitness professionals across the board
- Handles free weights and barbell drops — 9mm absorbs the impact of dropped dumbbells and routine barbell work without transferring the shock to your subfloor
- Superior protection for concrete, hardwood, and tile subfloors — prevents cracking, denting, and surface damage under heavy equipment
- Excellent anti-fatigue performance — standing and training on 9mm rubber is measurably more comfortable than thinner options during long sessions
- 5-year industry-leading warranty on all rubber flooring
- Made in the USA from recycled tires
- Slip-resistant surface holds firm under heavy equipment and loaded movement
- 7 colors: Black, Gray, Blue, Blue/Gray, Confetti, Eggshell/Cocoa, and Terra Cotta
Where 3/8" x 4’ x 6’ Rubber Mats Excel
The 4’ x 6’ footprint is the classic size for protecting a single heavy-use station:
- Under a squat rack or power rack base — catches barbell drops and protects subfloors from the rack’s standposts
- Barbell deadlift and clean zones — provides the cushion needed for routine ground-contact barbell work
- Under a cable machine or functional trainer — protects the floor from weighted attachment drops
- Home gym garage flooring under individual equipment pieces over concrete
- Commercial weight room stations under dumbbells racks and storage areas
- CrossFit and functional fitness zones with kettlebell work and box jumps
- Horse stall flooring — the 9mm thickness is ideal for equine cushion and durability
- Pet care and kennel facilities
- Any area where you need real subfloor protection, not just equipment stabilization

Frequently Asked Questions
Is 3/8" thick enough for dropping barbells?
For routine barbell work — deadlifts, rows, and cleans where the bar touches down with control — yes. The 3/8" mat handles this well and is the thickness we see most commonly used in commercial weight rooms for this exact purpose. For intentional drops from height (Olympic lifting, failed max attempts), our 1/2" mat provides better protection for both your subfloor and the bar.
What’s the difference between the 3/8" mat and the 3/8" rolls?
Same rubber, same thickness, same USA manufacturing — different format. The 3/8" rolls are cut to your exact length and are designed to cover an entire floor. The mats are fixed-size (4’ x 6’ or 4’ x 8’) and designed to protect specific equipment zones. Use mats when you want to place protection under specific equipment; use rolls when you want to floor an entire room.
Does a 4’ x 6’ mat fit under a squat rack?
Most home squat racks and power racks have a base footprint under 4’ x 4’, so a 4’ x 6’ mat fits well with 12 inches of extra length for the user’s standing position. Commercial-grade racks with wider bases may benefit from the 4’ x 8’ version. Measure your rack’s base footprint before ordering.
Is the 3/8" mat worth the extra cost over 5/16"?
If your training involves any ground-level barbell work (deadlifts, Romanian deadlifts, cleans, rows), yes — the extra 1mm of rubber makes a real difference in subfloor protection and long-term mat durability under repeated impact. If you’re exclusively using machines and benches without barbell drops, the 5/16" mat saves you a few dollars per square foot without meaningful sacrifice.
Does the 5-year warranty cover the mats?
Yes — our 5-year warranty covers all rubber flooring including the 3/8" mats, covering manufacturing defects in material and workmanship.
