2mm Rubber Underlayment — The Thin-Profile Base for Garage Tiles & Interlocking Floors
When your top flooring is already doing the heavy lifting — garage tiles, hard plastic interlocking tiles, or any modular floor system — what goes underneath needs to be firm, low-profile, and functional. Our 2mm rubber underlayment is specifically engineered for this application: it adds just enough cushion and noise reduction to make a real difference without raising floor height in a way that causes problems at doors, transitions, or vehicle entry.
At just 2mm thick and 0.43 lbs/sqft, this is our thinnest underlayment option. It installs flat under your tile system, stays in place, and works in garages, workshops, and utility spaces where you want a quiet, cushioned base without bulk. Made in the USA, backed by a 5-year warranty.
Why 2mm Is the Right Underlayment for Garage & Modular Tile Systems
- Built for garage tiles and interlocking plastic floors — the firm, minimal-compression profile supports modular tile systems that need a stable, even base; soft foam underlayments compress unevenly and can cause tiles to rock or disconnect
- Low floor height gain — at 2mm (just under 1/8”), it won’t cause problems at garage door thresholds, transition strips, or where vehicles pull in over the floor edge
- Noise reduction underfoot — dampens impact noise and foot traffic sound from the garage floor, making the space quieter for workshops, gyms, and utility areas
- Rigid and stable — unlike foam, rubber doesn’t compress under heavy equipment, parked vehicles, or shelving weight; the base stays flat over time
- Loose-lay or taped installation — install without adhesive for a completely reversible setup, or tape to the subfloor for permanent applications; works on concrete and wood subfloors
- Water-resistant — rubber doesn’t absorb moisture; suitable for garage environments where condensation, rain splash, and humidity are part of daily life
Where 2mm Rubber Underlayment Gets Used
- Under garage floor tiles — interlocking plastic, rubber, or composite garage tiles where you need a flat, firm, cushioned base that won’t compress unevenly
- Under hard plastic interlocking tile systems in gyms, basements, and trade show spaces
- Utility garages and workshops where noise from foot traffic, rolling equipment, and tool use needs to be softened
- Basement subfloor applications over concrete where a thin moisture-tolerant layer is needed under a rigid floor system
- Low-ceiling finished garages and spaces where floor height clearance at doors and transitions is tight

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use 2mm underlayment under rubber gym mats or tiles?
Yes — for rubber flooring over concrete where you want a thin moisture barrier and minimal sound dampening, the 2mm works well. For rubber gym flooring where the primary goal is impact absorption and anti-fatigue cushion, the 3mm or 5mm gives you meaningfully more performance. The 2mm shines most under hard rigid tile systems rather than soft rubber flooring.
Do I need adhesive to install 2mm underlayment?
No — the 2mm can be loose-laid under your tile system and held in place by the weight of the tiles above it. For permanent installations or applications where the underlayment needs to stay put before tiles are placed, double-sided tape works well. Full adhesive installation is not typically required for this thickness.
Will 2mm underlayment interfere with my garage door?
At 2mm (under 1/8”), the floor height gain is minimal. Most garage doors with standard clearance have no issue with 2mm underlayment plus a tile system on top. If your garage door already runs very close to the floor, measure the clearance before installing any underlayment and tile combination.
How much does a roll cover?
The 4’ x 25’ roll covers 100 square feet at $40 total ($0.40/sqft). The 4’ x 50’ roll covers 200 square feet at $80 total — same per-sqft rate, larger coverage for bigger spaces. Measure your floor area and order the size that minimizes seams and leftover waste.
