Step 1: Remove Loose Debris
Before applying any cleaner, vacuum the rubber floor with a soft brush head to remove dust, dirt, and loose particles. A vacuum works better than a broom because it can pull debris out of the small pores in the rubber.
- Adjust the vacuum brush height so it doesn’t scratch or mark the surface.
- A light to medium setting is usually enough to lift debris without causing damage.
Step 2: Wash the Floor
Rubber flooring is best cleaned with a mop, but not all mop types work well:
- Avoid cotton string mops or low-quality sponge mops, as they can shed fibers.
- Use a microfiber mop head for the best results.
Mix a pH-neutral cleaner (such as Zep Concentrated Neutral pH Floor Cleaner) with warm water, following the product’s dilution instructions. Mop the floor with a damp—not soaking wet—mop.
⚠️ If using a foamy cleaner (like dish soap), rinse the floor afterward with clean water. Skipping this step can leave behind a film that makes the floor look dull and attracts more dirt.
Step 3: Dry the Floor
Let the floor air dry completely. To speed up the process:
- Open windows for better airflow.
- Use a box fan to circulate air.
- Wipe up excess water with a dry microfiber cloth or mop.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is 1/4" rubber flooring thick enough for a home gym?
It depends on your workout style. Our 1/4" (6mm) rolls are a great fit for cardio equipment, yoga, stretching, bodyweight workouts, and light training. If you’re regularly using free weights, barbells, or heavy machines, we’d recommend stepping up to our 3/8" rubber rolls for more cushion and impact protection.
Can I use 1/4" rubber rolls under a treadmill or elliptical?
Yes — 1/4" rubber rolls are a popular choice for under cardio equipment. They provide excellent vibration dampening, floor protection, and slip resistance. For very heavy commercial-grade machines, consider upgrading to 5/16" or 3/8" for extra protection.
How wide are these rolls, and can I get a custom length?
Our standard 1/4" rubber rolls are 4 feet wide. We cut to your desired length, starting at 15 feet up to 50 feet in 5-foot increments. Need a 5-foot width? Check out our 1/4" XL Rubber Rolls (5’ wide).
Are these rubber rolls made in the USA?
Yes. Our 1/4" rubber rolls are proudly made in the USA from recycled tires — a sustainable flooring choice that doesn’t compromise on quality.
Can 1/4" rubber rolls be used outdoors?
Absolutely. These rolls are safe for indoor and outdoor use — patios, decks, boat docks, and outdoor pet areas are all fair game. Their slip-resistant surface holds up well in outdoor environments.
How do I install 1/4" rubber rolls?
Roll out your rubber flooring, trim to size with a straight edge and utility knife, and you’re done — no special tools needed. For permanent installs, secure with our Polyurethane Adhesive or Double Sided Tape at the edges and seams.
